You never forget your first love ....

another man into that position)

and my first love was Rick and Monica.

Oh, sure, some people thought Rick was a boring, self-righteous goody-goody; others thought Monica was a complete bitch and that perfect Lesley Webber was the perfect woman for Rick.

But I was 12, so naturally I knew everything. I knew that Monica was just a misunderstood, wounded orphan who never got over being left behind. I knew that Rick was a man who would always do the right thing, even when it meant sacrificing what he really wanted. These two belonged together. Why couldn't anyone else see it?

Now I'm in my 30s, and I know so much less now than I did then. But I never got over Pat Falken-Smith's decision to make baby AJ Alan's son after all, and I never stopped hoping that Rick and Monica might someday get back together.

When Chris Robinson left the show in 1986, that wish became harder to justify. But soap characters return all the time, so why not Rick Webber? When years turned into decades, though ... when the writing for GH went downhill faster than the speed of light ... when Lesley Webber returned from the dead and forgot that she'd been married ... I stopped watching. Occasionally I'd watch an old tape or re-read a novella-sized fan fiction I'd written about Rick's return ... but my hope had died.

And then.830.11small.jpg (37737 bytes)

Web sites started shrieking ... Chris Robinson was back. And Rick had unfinished business with Monica.

But how could two characters recapture the chemistry they'd had almost twenty years ago?

The answer: effortlessly. With a connection so compelling that even GH viewers who were in their mothers' wombs when Rick left the show want to see these two characters together.

And everything was perfect.

For about two weeks.

Until Bob Guza ruined everything!

But, we're not going to dwell on that. As far as I'm concerned, Rick suddenly left town right after the 4th of July, and none of this "Rick Webber serial adulterer-mind-altering-drug-giver" stuff ever happened.

830.3small.jpg (34553 bytes)This web site is a celebration of their relationship ... fond memories of the past, and hope in the fact that in soapdom, nothing is ever permanent, especially death. For me and the three other people I know that love Rick and Monica, it's a great place to hang out.

Come in, sit down, hum a few bars of "The Way We Were," think of a snazzy name for the two of them together. (How about "Harmonic?")
